#TBT – Throwing it back to 2011 for SEED20 Charlotte, the fourth stop on my non-profit tour…

SEED20 is an initiative of Social Venture Partners Charlotte (SVP) that spotlights and supports our region’s most innovative ideas for tackling pressing social challenges.

Each year, we have a class of 20 non-profit participants who receive training, coaching, feedback, and mentoring on how to succinctly and powerfully ‘tell their story.’ Their two-month efforts culminate in SEED20 OnStage—a high-energy event where up to 10 members of the class compete to win cash awards by making 3min. pitches to a panel of judges and an audience of over 900 members of our community!

My involvement with SEED20 began in 2011. Since the inception of the program, I have served as Logistics Coordinator for the two-months of coaching sessions. Working with this program has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have had in my 30 years as a Charlotte resident.

We have been able to conduct the coaching sessions at the UNCC City Center where we eat, strategize, critique, and get to know amazing non-profits, area coaches, and Davidson College students. I walk away from each session so proud of my city and the people in it who are trying to make things better!

This experience will be so valuable to me as a member of the CMS Board of Education. I have worked with 120 non-profits and ideas that are pulling in our private sector to solve issues that are pressing RIGHT HERE in Mecklenburg and the surrounding counties.

These folks are not waiting on a government solution. They are using their passion, experience, and know-how to get things done. I will draw on their expertise and partnership to help CMS expand educational opportunities for all students.
